Emma Jade Baughcum, 3-month-old daughter of Keith and Kelley Savage Baughcum, died Thursday, March 22, 2012.

She was born in Clarke County.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 26, 2012, in Smith Memory Chapel with the Rev. Mike Peavy officiating. Interment will follow in Barrow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the service at the funeral home.

Violet Gregory Clark

Violet Gregory Clark, 90, of Braselton, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012.

Born in Jackson County, she was a daughter of the late A.W. and Maude Fricks Gregory. Mrs. Clark was a homemaker and a member of Hoschton Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, W.F. Clark; daughters, Susan (Phil) Duck of Braselton and Connie E. Clark of Atlanta; grandchildren, Shannon (Tara) Duck of Braselton and Jared Wills of Jefferson; nieces, Christy Yeagar of Cumming and Dr. Bonnie Gregory of New Mexico.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2012, in the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ricky Thrasher officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Joyce Craft, 77, of Winder, died Saturday, March 24, 2012.

R.D. Crook

R.D. Crook, 101, of Winder, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012.

Born in Jefferson, he was a son of the late Riley Dillard Crook Sr., and Hattie Tolbert Crook. He was married to the late Marie Brookshire Crook and was also preceded in death by an infant son, Walter Riley Crook. He was a member of Winder First Baptist Church for 48 years and was a member of the Lions Club for 62 years.

Survivors include his son, Mercer (Christina) Crook of Gainesville; daughter, Nancy (Tommy) Armistead; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2012, in Smith Memory Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Morgan officiating. Interment will be in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. James Hiram Daniel, 78, of Watkinsville, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012.

Born in Madison County, he was a son of the the late Leo Franklin and Charline Sanders Daniel. Mr. Daniel retired from Federal Savings and Loan as a branch manager.

Mr. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents and a son, James Bruce Daniel.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Meadow Baptist Church Cemetery with the  Rev. Mike Sarna officiating. The family will receive friends after the service.

Survivors include his son, David Hiram Daniel of Watkinsville; brother, Ronald Daniel of Summerville, S.C.; former wife, Elise Jackson Pinyon of Canton; and three grandchildren.

Larry James Goodnight

Larry James Goodnight, 64, of Jefferson, died Thursday, March 22, 2012.

Born in Hartford City, Ind., he was a son of the late Merlin and Charlotte Boots Goodnight. He was an inventory analyst with Rockwell Automation and was a member of the Galilee Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Christine Goodnight.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Goodnight; children, Larry Scott Goodnight and his wife Kelly, of Commerce, and Julie Goodnight Love and her husband Kendall of Jefferson; granddaughters, Kenlie Ryan Love and Olivia Kate Goodnight; brothers, Richard Goodnight, Spokane, Wash., Jerry Goodnight, Indianapolis, Ind., and Michael Goodnight, Hollywood, Fla.; and his loving pet, Sugar.

James “Jimmy” Clyde Gunter, 51, of Hoschton, died Thursday, March 22, 2012.

He is preceded in death by his father James Edward Gunter.

Jean Deadwyler Hancock

Jean Deadwyler Hancock, 80, of Cleveland, died Sunday, March 18, 2012.

She was a daughter of the late Dessie “Jago” and Eloise Bond Deadwyler, and was married to the late Leon Hancock. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church and loved and enjoyed her family, square dancing and the outdoors. She retired from Wachovia Bank.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Gary Bradley of Gainesville and Cindy and Gary Kitchens of Hoschton; grandchildren, Kasey Murphy, Corey Bradley, Faith Spinks, Kathryn Bradley and Nathan Spinks; and great-grandchildren, Campbell and Leighton Murphy.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2012, in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. James Dollar officiating. Interment will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. David Brent Hardiman

David Brent Hardiman, of Jefferson, died Saturday, March 17, 2012, at his residence with his loving family gathered around him.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was a son of Gloria Jean Adams Wilson of Florence, Ky., and the late Robert Hardiman. He served his country faithfully in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Mr. Hardiman was a sales manager at Akins Ford in Winder with more than 22 years of service.

A memorial service, including military honors, was held Monday, March 19, 2012, at Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Williams and Mr. Brad Akins officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at Georgia National Cemetery located at 9310 Knox Bridge Highway in Canton.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Beverly A. Hardiman; daughters and sons-in-law, Brittany and Lamont Dozier of Braselton,Jeanette and Dan Meyers of Smyrna and Stacie and John El-Attrache of Olathe, Kan.; son, Alex Shead of Lawrenceville; sister, Linda Bauman of Villa Hills, Ky.; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Doug Harper of Lawrenceville; grandchildren, Lily Dozier, Sophia Dozier, Madeleine Meyers, Katelyn Meyers, Morgan El-Attrache, Parker El-Attrache, Stone El-Attrache, Avery Shead and Allie Shead; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Ardill Frances McCannon

Mrs. Ardill Frances McCannon, 83, of Jefferson, died Friday, March 23, 2012.

Born in Walker Mountain, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Mae Jones Powers. Mrs. McCannon was a retired after spending 30 years as custodian with the Jackson County Board of Education, working at South Jackson Elementary. Her husband, Fred Jake McCannon, son, Jimmy William McCannon, step-sons, Fred Daniel, Joe Mack and William Franklin, five brothers and a sister, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Mary and Dennis Roberts of Jefferson; Eive Lee Whitehead of Elberton; sister, Mary Lee Tate of Nicholson; grandchildren, Tim and Angie Parrott, Woody and Amy Brown, Tammy and Danny Cain, Diane and Danny Cofield, Kim and Sam Harp, Tracy and Jack Sorrow and Dennis and Jenifer Roberts; 24 great-grandchildren; three step-great great-grandchildren; and a soon to be born great-great-grandchild.

Robert Lee “Butch” Pugh Jr., 63, of Jefferson, died Saturday, March 17, 2012.

A son of the late Robert Lee Pugh Sr., and Mary Helen Nickerson, he served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Survivors include his sisters and brothers-in-law, Jody and Emory Thomas of Jefferson and Nikki and Elmer Stewart of Estero, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Dick Beller

Richard “Dick” Lyle Beller passed on to eternal life with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, March 5, 2012. He died during emergency surgery to repair a ruptured aorta. He lived a remarkable life and impacted the world at large through his more than 50 years of service as a missionary.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Evan Jon Beller, and his wife Pat, who went home to heaven in 2007.

Survivors include their three children, Richard David Beller, Michael Jon Beller, and Tami Beller Gaddis and their spouses, Heather McPhail Beller, Molly Smith Beller, and Richard Maxwell Gaddis, and 23 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Charles “Dale” Beller and his wife Marilyn Beller of Tucson, Ariz.; and sister, June Beller Maitland of Commerce, Mich.

A memorial service was held Saturday March 10, 2012, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home in Jefferson. He was laid to rest beside his wife and partner of 39 years, Patricia Cowan Beller.

A Barrow County native, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Lissie Whitehead Elder. She was preceded by her husband, Norman C. Dangar, and children, Laverne Shedd and Mary Ann Siple. Mrs. Dangar was a retiree of Macy’s.

Joseph Andrew Cerrato, 73, of Jefferson, died Sunday, March 4, 2012.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of the late Joseph and Anna Marie Rinando Cerrato. A veteran, he served in the United States Army. He was a produce manager with Pantry Pride and most recently retired from Publix after 10 years of service. He was a member of St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church in Jefferson.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 7, 2012, in the Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens in Ocala, Fla.

Survivors include his brothers, Anthony Cerrato of Jefferson and Vincent Cerrato of Jenson Beach, Fla.

Doris Gooch

Doris Allene Ray Gooch, 84, of Jefferson, died Friday, March 2, 2012.

Born in Athens, she was a daughter of late Hugh Ray and Jerusha Allene Bowden Ray Toney. She attended Martin Institute in Jefferson and Athens Technical College. Along with being a devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Gooch was an accomplished painter and enjoyed camping, traveling with her husband and cooking. Mrs. Gooch retired from The Bank of Barrow as a bookkeeper with many years of service. Mrs. Gooch as a longtime member at White Plains Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Carl Gooch, and brothers, Alva Ray, Vernard Ray and Lester Toney.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 5, 2012, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Minister Tom Plank and the Rev. Kevin Purcell officiating. Interment followed in the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

John Earl “Jim” James, 78, of Winder, died Saturday, March 3, 2012. He was a member of Winder First United Methodist Church. He retired as an electronics technician with Scientific Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. James Sr., and Julia Harvey James.

Thomas “Pete” Johnson, 77, Statham, died Saturday, March 3, 2012.

He was a member of Hebron Christian Church. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents, John S. and Ruth Michael Johnson and a son, Tony Lowe Johnson.

Col. John W. McKinney

Retired Col. John W. McKinney, 83, of Jefferson, died Thursday, March 1, 2012.

A private service was held at Woodbine Cemetery in Jefferson.

Col. McKinney retired from the military after 30 years of service, which included two tours in Vietnam and one tour in the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Welborn McKinney.

Survivors include his son, Steven McKinney of Richmond, Va.; daughter, Cindy Smigelsky of Oakwood; brother, Seab McKinney of Texas; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Born in Winder, he was a son of the late Charles O. Maddox Sr., and Willie M. Maddox. He was the Past Chairman, CEO and President of The Peoples Bank.

Survivors are his wife, Betty Jo Maddox; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Kimberly Maddox of Winder; and grandchildren: Samantha, Morgan and Zach Maddox.

Jane “Pug” Elizabeth Holcombe Peck, 49, of Nicholson, died Thursday, March 1, 2012.

Born in Gwinnett County, she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Janie Lawrence McDaniel Holcombe. She attended New Hope Baptist Church in Nicholson. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Dianne Holcombe.

Era Terry Perry

Mrs. Era Terry Perry, 91, of Jefferson, died Monday, March 5, 2012.

Born in Jackson County, she was a daughter of the Late Rufus and Annie Terry. Mrs. Perry was a homemaker and a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Albert Perry; son, Gene Perry; and a sister, Arie Collins.

Survivors include her children, Peggy Maxwell (Dwaine) of Auburn, L.B. Perry (Paralee) and Judy Perry, both of Jefferson, Bobby Perry of Commerce, Dorothy Nix (William) of Johns Creek, Shirley Pearson (David) of Athens, Charles Perry (Connie) of Oakwood, Kathy Branyon (Ken) of Hull and Douglas Perry of Bristol, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 7, 2012, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Jesse Mealor officiating with burial following in Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Winder. Wanda Prough

Wanda Prough, 64, of Winder, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012.

A native of Atlanta, she was the daughter of the late Shelby and Dorothy Driskell Clendening. She was a retired insurance agent with Winder Insurance Center. She was a member of the Winder Church of God.

A funeral service was held Sunday, March 4, 2012, in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home with the Rev. Kyle Baber officiating. Entombment was in The Chapel Mausoleum of Barrow Memorial Gardens.

Survivors are her husband, Jack Prough; son, David “Sonny” Jones of Cornelia; grandson, Joshua Jones of Cornelia; brothers, Marshall Clendening of Winder and Wayne Clendening of Braselton.

Mary L. Puckett, 86, of Jefferson, formerly of Norcross, died Monday, March 5, 2012.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.N. Puckett. For many years, Mrs. Puckett, along with her husband, operated the DeKalb County Cannery. She has resided in Norcross, Lavonia and Jefferson.

Survivors include her children, Annie Ruth and Cecil Reeves of Monroe, Allene and Gary Whaley of Nicholson, Clifford and Sue Puckett of Winder, Linda and Bob Sullivan of Ellijay, Bobby and Gloria Gray of Vero Beach, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 19 great -grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Herb Snedden officiating. The burial was held in the Peachtree Memorial Park in Norcross.

Luanne H. Turner

Luanne Hardin Turner, 75, of Arabi, died Friday, March 2, 2012.

Born in Crisp County, she was the oldest daughter of Zackie Lewis and Emma Johnson Hardin. She was a longtime employee of B.C. Moore & Sons Warehouse. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she served as pianist for more than 50 years. She also taught many children in Sunday school and Vacation Bible School through the years. In 2001, she was honored for her devotion to music and to the praise of God through song. She also appreciated the beauty of Sacred Harp singing.

Survivors are her husband of 55 years, Delmus L. Turner; daughter and son-in-law, LeAnne and Alan Akin of Winder; brother and sister-in-law, Plez and Dee Hardin of Americus; sister, Lynn H. Thompson of North Carolina; brother-in-law, Billy Turner of Arabi; stepgranddaughter, Sabrina Medley and family of Cherokee County; nephews and nieces, Plez Hardin and family, Geoffrey Hardin and family, Blake Hardin, Adam Thompson and family, Melissa Green and family and Terri Turner and family; cousins and other relatives and friends.

Deborah Ann Womack, 60, of Auburn, died March 5, 2012.

Born in Atlanta, she was the daughter of the late Richard P. and Elizabeth B. Hunter.

Geri Woodward

Geraldine Bridget “Geri” Woodward, 64, of Jefferson, died Thursday, March 1, 2012.

Born in Bayonne, N.J., she was a daughter of the late John and Mildred Desena Murtha, and was preceded by her husband, Gary E. Woodward. She was employed with Eastern Airlines as a flight attendant for 23 years

Funeral services were held Monday, March 5, 2012, in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Father Terry Crone officiating. Interment followed at Evans Memory Gardens.

Survivors include her daughter, Greer Woodward of Jefferson; son and daughter-in -law, Gary D. and Carrie Woodward of Jefferson; sister, Joan Kalinowski of Monroe, N.C.; brother, Andrew Murtha of Union, N.J.; and grandchildren, Carson and Olivia Woodward.

John “Jim” James Jr.

John “Jim” Earl James, 78, of Winder died March 3, 2012.

He was a member of the Winder First Methodist Church and a retired electronics technician with Scientific Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late John E. James Sr. and Julia Harvey James. He is survived by his wife,, Kathleen James of Winder and three children and their spouses, Kevin (Julie) of Johns Creek, Terri (John) Ariedge of Grayson and Pamela (Scott) McDonald of Lawrenceville. He is also survived by a sister, Joyce Hill of Pearland, TX, and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 4, from 3-5 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Winder. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 5 at 10 a.m. at Winder First Methodist Church.

Thomas “Pete” Johnson

Thomas “Pete” Johnson, 77, of Statham died March 3, 2012.

Johnson was a member of Hebron Christian Church and was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He is preceded in death by his parents, the late John S. and Ruth Michael Johnson and a son, Tony Lowe Johnson. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Janice Johnson of Winder and daughter Terri Lynn Jones of Statham.

Jean N. Jackson

Jean N. Jackson, of Winder, died March 1, 2012.

Jackson was born in Ft. Myers, Fla., and was the co-owner of Jackson Ready Mixed Concrete Co. and operator. She was the daughter of late Charles and Ruth Lanier Niblack and was married to the late Royce Alfred Jackson.

She is survived by two sons, Steven (Dottie) Jackson of Winder and Michael R. Jackson of Athens, and daughter Jane J. (Robert) Donald of Athens. Jackson is also survived by four grandchildren and sisters Beth (Robert) Wilson of Athens and Charlote (Joel) Patterson of Cleveland, Tenn.
