Reopening of Mayfield Dairies’ visitors center being discussed

As promised, officials from Dean Foods have been talking with Braselton Town Manager Jennifer Dees about the possible reopening of the Mayfield Dairies’ visitors center.

When the center closed the center with its tours, gift shop and ice cream parlor last October, Jamaison Schuler, senior manager of corporate communications for Dean Foods Co., which purchased Mayfield Dairy in 1990, said the company would be considering input and suggestions made by town officials and others in the local community.

Pottery connects David Meaders to the past

 

Potter David Meaders, speaker at the Lunch and Learn hosted by Friends of the Braselton-West Jackson Library, is known for his efforts to carry on the family tradition.

While some passively observe the slow and steady end to tradition, David Meaders has dedicated his life’s work to preserving it.

The Friends of the Braselton Library were pleased to have Meaders as the guest speaker at its March 14 Lunch and Learn. President Judee McMurdo introduced the presentation: “David is the most exciting person I’ve met in a long time.”

It is apparent that many from the community agreed as the event had its second month of record-breaking attendance.

YearOne hosts community yard sale

A double rainbow spread above Year One just before the community arrived to have the first pick of items.

Rain threatened to end the second annual Braselton Yard Sale on the morning of St. Patrick’s Day, but the skies cleared.

Spaces were on a first-come, first-serve basis and although set-up started at 6 a.m., the line started forming just after 5.

Although the sight was rare and beautiful, participants hoped that the showers that accompany the phenomenon would stay away.

Ongoing road construction prompts complaints

The Braselton-West Jackson Library, part of the Piedmont Regional Library System, has been answering inquiries for months. They have noticed a drop in visitors since the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funded road projects have gotten under way.

Work has been ongoing on the Zion Church Road project and Highway 124 has been rerouted.

Braselton plans to enhance emergency alerts

As spring arrives and the pollen count reaches a record high, more pressing concerns mount in the minds of citizens. With the season, comes the threat of severe weather and tornadoes.

After last year’s damaging storm that reeked havoc on Alabama and North Georgia, people cannot be too careful in preparation. The terrifying tornado warning from Friday, March 2, has caused Town of Braselton officials to question their emergency communication methods.
