Need food? Mobile food pantry is March 19 at Pendergrass Flea Market

After a successful first go, iServe Ministries will be back in the parking lot of the Pendergrass Flea Market providing Jackson County families in need with food.

The Mobile Food Bank will again be in Jackson County to give away food to 500 needy families in the county.

The program is first-come, first-serve beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, and is free to any low income Jackson County family. Recipients must be able to provide proof of residency and be willing to sign a form concerning household income.

“We thought last month’s truck went well,” said Sherry Grant of iServe Ministries. “We do believe the weather played a part in the turnout, but we didn’t expect to be at full capacity the first month.”

Last month was iServe’s first giveaway, and volunteers and families showed up, despite the cold temperatures and rain.

“We think this month we will have at least double, if not more, because of word of mouth and other avenues of publicity,” she said.

The Mobile Food Bank program is offered through a partnership with the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia and The Emergency Food Assistance Program.

Each month a local church or organization sponsors the giveaway. For $800, the Food Bank provides a 48-foot trailer containing 30,000 pounds of food, which is to benefit around 500 families.

This month’s sponsor is single individual, who wishes for her donation to remain anonymous.
