Hawks look ahead to Brookwood

The Mill Creek High School football team gave Head Coach Shannon Jarvis his first eight wins in his career at MCHS and are hoping to add more in the winning column before the season ends.

In order to do that, Mill Creek will have to get past the Broncos of Brookwood High School, who were state champions just two years ago. Since then their stock has fallen somewhat as they have gone 8-4 in 2011 and 7-4 this year. It’s a big jump from a team that lost just one game two years ago; however, they already made their mark earlier this season against Mill Creek in a 31-21 win. The Broncos have suffered losses against Walton, Parkview, South Gwinnett and Grayson High School.

The Hawks had a thrilling finish over Alpharetta High School last week in the opening round of the state playoffs but AHS is not a stranger to success. The Raiders went 9-2 last season and fell to Lassiter High School in overtime in the playoffs.

Mill Creek has had their share of dramatic finishes this year; the Hawks came from behind to defeat Collins Hill High School in their regular season finale. With less than ten seconds to play in regulation, the Hawks blocked the Eagles field goal attempt and sealed a 17-14 win.

The Hawks will not have home field advantage but they won’t have to travel far. If Mill Creek fans show up in large numbers, the Hawks could be playing in an atmosphere that feels just like home.
