Barrow Emergency Services collecting toys for Holiday Connection

Firefighters with Barrow County Emergency Services will be joined with members from the Barrow Emergency Support Team/Community Emergency Response Team in hosting their annual “Empty Stocking” toy drive.

“All proceeds from this toy drive will again go to the Barrow County Holiday Connection store,” said Lt. Scott Dakin. “This means that all donations will stay right here in Barrow County to help those of our neighbors that are in need this Christmas.”

The toy drive will be held on Saturdays, Nov. 24, Dec. 1 and Dec. 8. Each Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., firefighters and team members will be at the Barrow Crossing parking lot in front of the Staples store collecting new unwrapped toys and monetary donations.

If you cannot make it by on these dates, you can drop your donations off to any Barrow County fire station.

“We are asking citizens to come together as we help those neighbors in need,” said Dakin. “Let’s come together and make lots of children very happy Christmas morning.”

Holiday Connection is a gift store that is operated by Family Connection, Communities in Schools of Barrow County. It is a collaborative of many different local agencies that work together to meet the needs of Barrow County citizens. They work with other agencies that are distributing toys to make sure that all those in need this year are helped by one of the organizations.

“I cannot imagine being a child and waking up excited for Christmas and finding no presents, or being a parent and having to decide between feeding my child or getting them a few presents,” said Dakin. “Through the generosity of so many of our neighbors we can try and make sure these children wake up Christmas morning to unwrap presents.”
